There wasn’t much play on Day 2 of the 1st Test between England and New Zealand, but the Hosts had the best of what was on offer. New Zealand started the day on 208-6 and having dawdled to 277-9, Vetorri decided that enough was enough and declared in a novel manner; he left a straight one. This wicket gave Ryan Player of the Year Sidebottom his 4th wicket of the day, at a cost of just 5 runs. He is actually God.
England started their response cautiously and were not helped by further interruptions in play, but the last 45 minutes of action saw Cook begin to punish some loose bowling to take his score to 43 and England to 68-0 overnight. Strauss looked comfortable against the new ball and will be hoping to get a score on Saturday to cement his place in the side.
The game needs some good weather in order to reach a conclusion. Perhaps someone could ask God; he is in the Home dressing room after all.

Strauss gets another chance to get back in form, back in the team and then choke against the Australians next year. It’s a plan, Moores!
