England enjoyed their second consecutive series win against New Zealand after victory at Trent Bridge. The Amazing Ryan Sidebottom took six wickets in the Kiwis’ second innings to give England a 2-0 win in this ‘home leg’. Apparently our next Test Match isn’t against New Zealand; who can remember when that was last the case? Meanwhile we’ve got a Twenty20 and a (no doubt interminable) ODI series against Them What Wears Black Caps.
Day 4 at Trent Bridge started with NZ 177-5, Hopkins batting with Oram. It was all over 12.3 overs later. Sidebottom picked up 4 wickets to leave the visitors 9 down whilst Oram smashed 50 off just 39 ballls, including pulled sixes off Broad and Anderson, but it was Jimmy who got the final wicket. Chris Martin, possibly the worst Test ‘Batsmen’ in the game, a true No. 11, provided Anderson’s 9th scalp of the match and brought a decent series to a close.
The boot will be on the other foot for the ODIs as New Zealand will surely be favourites to win.
