Today is my birthday. I awoke with England at 39-2 having polished off SA for 314, with Anderson and Sidebottom bowling well and completing the job. So a lead of 83. And a poor start from England. Again. On my birthday.
My father called and I said I wanted Pietersen and Collingwood to get centuries, it was now 104-4 and Pietersen had about 30. They batted fantastically, Collingwood shoving my “worse than Broad with the bat” comments down my throat. Over 100 rapid runs later Pietersen falls on 94 trying to club a six. South Africa were beginning to sweat and look short of ideas! Yesterday a straight one seemed too much for Colly. The ascendency was given back to them. Frustrating.
Flintoff rolls in and in the same over is gone. Ambrose and Colly put on an invaluable unbeaten 76, with Ambrose getting 19 off 78 balls. Collingwood did panel a six to bring up his hundred, gritty, gripping, geordie and glorious. England lead by 214 with 4 wickets left.
So what is the par score to lead in the game. I think 280. What will England set, I say 260. I think England will lose from here. Shove those down my throat anyone? Otherwise Graeme Smith will look this happy.
